Luke 9:18-19
King James Version
18 And it came to pass,
as he was alone praying,
his disciples were with him:
and he asked them, saying,
Whom say the people that I am?
19 They answering said,
John the Baptist;
but some say, Elias;
and others say,
that one of the old prophets is risen again.
The Name, JESUS CHRIST, has been taken for granted.
But do we really know its sacred significance?
The LORD JESUS is known as JESUS CHRIST.
A Name not to be blasphemed.
The FOUR gospels speak of JESUS as the CHRIST:
Matthew 16:16
King James Version
16 And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ,
the Son of the living God.
Mark 8:29
King James Version
29 And he saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am?
And Peter answereth and saith unto him,
Thou art the Christ.
Luke 9:20
King James Version
20 He said unto them,
But whom say ye that I am?
Peter answering said,
The Christ of God.
John 11:27
King James Version
27 She saith unto him,
Yea, Lord:
I believe that thou art the Christ,
the Son of God,
which should come into the world.
The Acts of the Apostles confirm it:
Acts 17:3
King James Version
3 Opening and alleging,
that Christ must needs have suffered,
and risen again from the dead;
and that this Jesus,
whom I preach unto you,
is Christ.
Acts 18:28
King James Version
28 For he mightily convinced the Jews,
and that publicly,
shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
The gospel of LUKE has more to say:
Luke 2:25-35
King James Version
25 And, behold,
there was a man in Jerusalem,
whose name was Simeon;
and the same man was just and devout,
waiting for the consolation of Israel:
and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost,
that he should not see death,
before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple:
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus,
to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms,
and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord,
now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace,
according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled
at those things which were spoken of him.
34 And Simeon blessed them,
and said unto Mary his mother,
Behold,
this child is set for the fall and rising again
of many in Israel;
and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,)
that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
Luke 4:40-41
King James Version
40 Now when the sun was setting,
all they that had any sick with divers diseases
brought them unto him;
and he laid his hands on every one of them,
and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many,
crying out, and saying,
Thou art Christ the Son of God.
And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak:
for they knew that he was Christ.
Even the devils know JESUS is CHRIST, the SON of GOD.
Perhaps, it is only man who doesn't acknowledge.
This post aims to bring clarity, through SPIRIT, and Scripture.
But what does "CHRIST" mean?
The gospel of John explains it precisely.
John 1:40-41
King James Version
40 One of the two which heard John speak,
and followed him, was Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon,
and saith unto him,
We have found the Messias,
which is, being interpreted,
the Christ.
So, "CHRIST" means "MESSIAH".
What does the Bible say about the Messiah?
Well, the birth of JESUS was prophesied:
Isaiah 9:5-7
King James Version
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise,
and garments rolled in blood;
but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end,
upon the throne of David,
and upon his kingdom,
to order it,
and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The LORD's fate and mission was also prophesied:
Acts 26:22-23
King James Version
22 Having therefore obtained help of God,
I continue unto this day,
witnessing both to small and great,
saying none other things than those
which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
23 That Christ should suffer,
and that he should be the first
that should rise from the dead,
and should shew light unto the people,
and to the Gentiles.
An angel announced the GOOD NEWS:
Luke 2:7-14
King James Version
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son,
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,
and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country
shepherds abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo,
the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them:
and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them,
Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day
in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.
From the verses, we learn that JESUS is CHRIST -- the "Christ of God", the "Lord's Christ".
We learn that "CHRIST" means "Son of God".
It also means "Messiah".
And "Messiah" means "Savior".
"Savior" refers to "Christ the Lord".
Scripture testifies of it:
Only through JESUS can we be saved.
Luke 19:10
King James Version
10 For the Son of man is come
to seek and to save that which was lost.
Acts 4:12
King James Version
12 Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name under heaven
given among men,
whereby we must be saved.
What are we to be saved from?
John 8:24
King James Version
24 I said therefore unto you,
that ye shall die in your sins:
for if ye believe not that I am he,
ye shall die in your sins.
JESUS is our only SALVATION.
John 3:16-17
King James Version
16 For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world
to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved.
Let all, who are of GOD, acknowledge JESUS as CHRIST, SON of GOD, MESSIAH, and SAVIOR.
