DISTRACTIONS of LIFE

Mark 4:19

King James Version

19 And the cares of this world,

and the deceitfulness of riches,

and the lusts of other things entering in,

choke the word,

and it becometh unfruitful.

The seed of GOD's WORD is constantly sown among people.

But how many listen?

How many care?

Are people aware at all, we are falling into a pit of eternal fire?

In this world, GOD's WORD is being choked through:

1. The "cares of this world".

2. "Deceitfulness of riches".

3. The "lusts of other things entering in".

These Bible versions explain more about these three things.

Mark 4:19

Amplified Bible

19 but the worries and cares of the world [the distractions of this age with its worldly pleasures], and the deceitfulness [and the false security or glamour] of wealth [or fame], and the passionate desires for all the other things creep in and choke out the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Mark 4:19

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

19 Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless.

Mark 4:19

Common English Bible

19 but the worries of this life, the false appeal of wealth, and the desire for more things break in and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.

Mark 4:19

Complete Jewish Bible

19 but the worries of the world, the deceitful glamor of wealth and all the other kinds of desires push in and choke the message; so that it produces nothing.

Mark 4:19

Contemporary English Version

19 But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.

Mark 4:19

Easy-to-Read Version

19 but their lives become full of other things: the worries of this life, the love of money, and everything else they want. This keeps the teaching from growing, and it does not produce a crop[a] in their lives.

Mark 4:19

Expanded Bible

19 but the worries of this ·life [world; age], the ·temptation [deceitfulness; seduction] of wealth, and ·many other evil desires [desires for other things] ·keep the teaching from growing and producing fruit in their lives [L come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful].

Mark 4:19

GOD’S WORD Translation

19 but the worries of life, the deceitful pleasures of riches, and the desires for other things take over. They choke the word so that it can’t produce anything.

Mark 4:19

Good News Translation

19 but the worries about this life, the love for riches, and all other kinds of desires crowd in and choke the message, and they don't bear fruit.

Mark 4:19

Holman Christian Standard Bible

19 but the worries of this age, the seduction[a] of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Mark 4:19

International Children’s Bible

19 But then other things come into their lives: worries, the love of money, and wanting all kinds of other things. These things stop the teaching from growing. So that teaching does not produce fruit[a] in their lives.

Mark 4:19

J.B. Phillips New Testament

These are the people who hear the message, but the worries of this world and the false glamour of riches and all sorts of other ambitions creep in and choke the life out of what they have heard, and it produces no crop in their lives.

Mark 4:19

Living Bible

19 but all too quickly the attractions of this world and the delights of wealth, and the search for success and lure of nice things come in and crowd out God’s message from their hearts, so that no crop is produced.

Mark 4:19

The Message

18-19 “The seed cast in the weeds represents the ones who hear the kingdom news but are overwhelmed with worries about all the things they have to do and all the things they want to get. The stress strangles what they heard, and nothing comes of it.

Mark 4:19

New American Bible (Revised Edition)

19 but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.

Mark 4:19

New Catholic Bible

19 but worldly cares, the lure of riches, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.

Mark 4:19

New Century Version

19 but the worries of this life, the temptation of wealth, and many other evil desires keep the teaching from growing and producing fruit[a] in their lives.

Mark 4:19

New English Translation

19 but[a] worldly cares, the seductiveness of wealth,[b] and the desire for other things come in and choke the word,[c] and it produces nothing.

Mark 4:19

New Life Version

19 But the cares of this life let thorns come up. A love for riches and always wanting other things let thorns grow. These things do not give the Word room to grow so it does not give grain.

Mark 4:19

New Living Translation

19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.

Mark 4:19

19 but the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the hunger for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it is made unfruitful.

Mark 4:19

New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised

19 but the cares of the world, and the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing.

Mark 4:19

New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition

19 but the cares of the age and the lure of wealth and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing.

Mark 4:19

New Testament for Everyone

19 and the worries of the present age, and the deceit of riches, and desires for other kinds of things, come in and choke the word, so that it produces no fruit.

Markos 4:19

Orthodox Jewish Bible

19 and the worries of the Olam Hazeh and the seduction of ashires (riches) and the desires for other things come in and choke the dvar Hashem and it does not bear pri.

Mark 4:19

The Voice

19 but the things of this life—the worries, the drive for more and more, the desire for other things—those things cluster around close and choke the life of God out of them until they cannot produce.

Mark 4:19

Worldwide English (New Testament)

19 But they think about the things of this world. They want to get money and other things to be happy. These things push the message out of their hearts. No good comes from it.

Mark 4:19

Wycliffe Bible

19 and dis-ease of the world, and deceit of riches, and other charge of covetousness entereth, and strangleth the word, and it is made without fruit. [and mis-eases of the world, and deceit of riches, and other charge of covetousness entering in, strangle the word, and it is made without fruit.]

Mark 4:19

Young's Literal Translation

19 and the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, and the desires concerning the other things, entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Proverbs 1:22

King James Version

22 How long,

ye simple ones,

will ye love simplicity?

and the scorners delight in their scorning,

and fools hate knowledge?

I love using King James Version of the Bible.

But I knew there was something more to the phrase, "simple ones".

And "simplicity".

True enough, other Bible versions confirmed it.

Proverbs 1:22

Amplified Bible

22

“How long, O naive ones [you who are easily misled], will you love being simple-minded and undiscerning?

How long will scoffers [who ridicule and deride] delight in scoffing,

How long will fools [who obstinately mock truth] hate knowledge?

Proverbs 1:22

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

22 How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge?

How long will you mockers enjoy mocking

and you fools hate knowledge?

will you enjoy

    being stupid fools?

Proverbs 1:22

Easy-to-Read Version

22 “Fools, how long will you love being ignorant? How long will you make fun of wisdom? How long will you hate knowledge?

Proverbs 1:22

Expanded Bible

REPROBATE mind

Romans 1:28

King James Version

28 And even as they did not like

to retain God in their knowledge,

God gave them over to a reprobate mind,

to do those things which are not convenient;

What happens to people who don't acknowledge GOD?

He gives them over to a reprobate mind.

But what does "reprobate" mean?

What happens when one has such a mind?

SPIRIT and SCRIPTURE make things clear:

Romans 1:28

21st Century King James Version

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not fitting,

Romans 1:28

Amplified Bible

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive,

Romans 1:28

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

28 And so, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or approve of Him or consider Him worth the knowing, God gave them over to a base and condemned mind to do things not proper or decent but loathsome,

Romans 1:28

Christian Standard Bible

28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right.

Romans 1:28

Common English Bible

28 Since they didn’t think it was worthwhile to acknowledge God, God abandoned them to a defective mind to do inappropriate things.

Romans 1:28

Complete Jewish Bible

28 In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things.

Romans 1:28

Contemporary English Version

28  Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things.

Romans 1:28

Darby Translation

28 And according as they did not think good to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind to practise unseemly things;

Romans 1:28

Disciples’ Literal New Testament

They Disapproved of Keeping God In Mind

28 And as they did not approve to have[a] God in their knowledge, God handed them over to a disapproved mind, to do the things not being proper—

Romans 1:28

Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition

28 And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient;

Romans 1:28

Easy-to-Read Version

28 People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed them to have their own worthless thinking. And so they do what they should not do.

Romans 1:28

Evangelical Heritage Version

28 And since they did not consider it worthwhile to hold on to the true knowledge of God, God handed them over to a corrupted mind to do things that should never be done.

Romans 1:28

English Standard Version

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

Romans 1:28

Expanded Bible

28 [L And since/just as] People did not ·think it was important [consider it worthwhile; see fit] to ·have a true knowledge of [or acknowledge] God. So God ·abandoned them to [allowed them to pursue; gave them over to] ·their own worthless thinking [a depraved/corrupted mind] to do things they should not do.

Romans 1:28

GOD’S WORD Translation

28 And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things.

Romans 1:28

Good News Translation

28 Because those people refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do.

Romans 1:28

Holman Christian Standard Bible

28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong.

Romans 1:28

International Children’s Bible

28 People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed them to have their own worthless thinking. And so those people do the things that they should not do.

Romans 1:28

International Standard Version

28 Furthermore, because they did not think it worthwhile to keep knowing God fully, God delivered them to degraded minds to perform acts that should not be done.

Romans 1:28

J.B. Phillips New Testament

Moreover, since they considered themselves too high and mighty to acknowledge God, he allowed them to become the slaves of their degenerate minds, and to perform unmentionable deeds.

Jubilee Bible 2000

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse understanding, to do those things which are not convenient,

Romans 1:28

Lexham English Bible

28 And just as they did not see fit to recognize God[a], God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things that are not proper,

Romans 1:28

Living Bible

28 So it was that when they gave God up and would not even acknowledge him, God gave them up to doing everything their evil minds could think of.

Romans 1:28

The Message

Since they didn’t bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose. And then all hell broke loose:

Romans 1:28

Names of God Bible

28 And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things.

New American Bible (Revised Edition)

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper.

New American Standard Bible

28 And just as they did not see fit [a]to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper,

Romans 1:28

New King James Version

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Romans 1:28

New Life Version

28 Because they would not keep God in their thoughts anymore, He gave them up. Their minds were sinful and they wanted only to do things they should not do.

Romans 1:28

New Living Translation

28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

Romans 1:28

28 And as they proved that they had not God in knowing [And as they proved not to have God in knowing], God betook them into a reprovable wit, that they do those things that be not suitable;

Romans 1:28

Young's Literal Translation

28 And, according as they did not approve of having God in knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mind, to do the things not seemly;

In SUMMARY, a "reprobate" mind means these:
