TITLES for JERUSALEM

2 Chronicles 6:6

King James Version

6 But I have chosen Jerusalem,

that my name might be there;

and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

It's good to know what Jerusalem stands for.

What better source, than Scripture?

A "crown of glory"; a "royal diadem"

Isaiah 62:3

King James Version

3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory

in the hand of the Lord,

and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

A "praise in the earth"

Isaiah 62:7

King James Version

7 And give him no rest,

till he establish

and till he make Jerusalem

a praise in the earth.

The "throne of the Lord"

Jeremiah 3:17

King James Version

17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem

the throne of the Lord

and all the nations shall be gathered unto it,

to the name of the Lord,

to Jerusalem:

neither shall they walk any more

after the imagination of their evil heart.

A "city of truth"

Zechariah 8:3

King James Version

3 Thus saith the Lord;

I am returned unto Zion,

and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem

and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth

and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain.

A "cup of trembling"

Zechariah 12:2

King James Version

2 Behold

I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling

unto all the people round about

when they shall be in the siege

both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

A "burdensome stone"

Zechariah 12:3

King James Version

3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem

a burdensome stone for all people

all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces,

though all the people of the earth

be gathered together against it.

A "city not forsaken"

Isaiah 62:12

King James Version

12 And they shall call them,

The holy people,

The redeemed of the Lord:

and thou shalt be called,

Sought out

A city not forsaken.

"Hephzibah" and "Beulah"

Isaiah 62:4

King James Version

4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken;

neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate

but thou shalt be called Hephzibah,

and thy land Beulah

for the Lord delighteth in thee,

and thy land shall be married.

Which "killest the prophets"

Luke 13:34

King James Version

34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,

which killest the prophets

and stonest them that are sent unto thee

how often would I have gathered thy children together,

as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings,

and ye would not!

"Desolate"

Luke 13:35

King James Version

35 Behold,

your house is left unto you desolate

and verily I say unto you,

Ye shall not see me,

until the time come when ye shall say,

Blessed is he that cometh

in the name of the Lord.

GOD SANCTIFIES His HOLY NAME

Ezekiel 36:23

King James Version

23 And I will sanctify my great name,

which was profaned among the heathen,

which ye have profaned in the midst of them;

and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord,

saith the Lord God,

when I shall be sanctified in you

before their eyes.

If you have no idea God's mercy, you will here.

God made these declarations to Ezekiel, about 500 years before JESUS was born.

These verses remain relevant, for man continues to profane God's HOLY NAME.

And God continues to have mercy.

Only by GOD's GRACE are we not all consumed by His wrath -- yet.

But why push it?

We are to take heed now.

For GOD's WILL be DONE.

Ezekiel 36:16-38

King James Version

16 Moreover the word of the Lord

came unto me, saying,

17 Son of man,

when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land,

they defiled it by their own way

and by their doings:

their way was before me

as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

18 Wherefore I poured my fury upon them

for the blood that they had shed upon the land

and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:

19 And I scattered them among the heathen

and they were dispersed through the countries

according to their way

and according to their doings I judged them.

20 And when they entered unto the heathen,

whither they went,

they profaned my holy name,

when they said to them,

These are the people of the Lord,

and are gone forth out of his land.

21 But I had pity for mine holy name,

which the house of Israel had profaned

among the heathen,

whither they went.

22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel

thus saith the Lord God

I do not this for your sakes,

O house of Israel,

but for mine holy name's sake

which ye have profaned among the heathen,

whither ye went.

23 And I will sanctify my great name,

which was profaned among the heathen,

which ye have profaned in the midst of them;

and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord

saith the Lord God

when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

24 For I will take you from among the heathen,

and gather you out of all countries,

and will bring you into your own land.

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you

and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness,

and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you,

and a new spirit will I put within you

and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh,

and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you,

and cause you to walk in my statutes,

and ye shall keep my judgments,

and do them.

28 And ye shall dwell in the land

that I gave to your fathers;

and ye shall be my people,

and I will be your God.

29 I will also save you

from all your uncleannesses

and I will call for the corn,

and will increase it

and lay no famine upon you.

30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree,

and the increase of the field,

that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine

among the heathen.

31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways

and your doings that were not good,

and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight

for your iniquities and for your abominations.

32 Not for your sakes do I this,

saith the Lord God

be it known unto you:

be ashamed and confounded

for your own ways,

O house of Israel.

33 Thus saith the Lord God;

In the day that I shall have cleansed you

from all your iniquities

I will also cause you to dwell in the cities,

and the wastes shall be builded.

34 And the desolate land shall be tilled

whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by.

35 And they shall say,

This land that was desolate

is become like the garden of Eden

and the waste and desolate and ruined cities

are become fenced,

and are inhabited.

36 Then the heathen that are left round about you

shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places,

and plant that that was desolate

I the Lord have spoken it,

and I will do it.

37 Thus saith the Lord God;

I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel,

to do it for them

I will increase them with men like a flock.

38 As the holy flock,

as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts

so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men

and they shall know that I am the Lord.

The MAN who CARED for ISRAEL

What Hanani, and certain men of Judah, told Nehemiah:

Nehemiah 1:3

King James Version

3 And they said unto me,

The remnant

that are left of the captivity there in the province

are in great affliction and reproach:

the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down,

and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

He was the king's cupbearer.

And yet, upon hearing the plight of the Jewish remnant, and the state of Jerusalem's walls, Nehemiah called upon the LORD for help.

Hearing his people's distress, this cupbearer wept, fasted, and prayed.

Nehemiah 1:5-7

King James Version

5 And said,

I beseech thee,

O Lord God of heaven,

the great and terrible God,

that keepeth covenant and mercy for them

that love him and observe his commandments:

6 Let thine ear now be attentive,

and thine eyes open,

that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant,

which I pray before thee now,

day and night,

for the children of Israel thy servants,

and confess the sins of the children of Israel,

which we have sinned against thee:

both I and my father's house have sinned.

7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee,

and have not kept the commandments,

nor the statutes,

nor the judgments,

which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

And took courage, bringing wine to the king.

Nehemiah 2:1

King James Version

2 And it came to pass in the month Nisan,

in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king,

that wine was before him:

and I took up the wine,

and gave it unto the king.

Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.

The king asks why he was sad.

Nehemiah 2:3

King James Version

3 And said unto the king,

Let the king live for ever

why should not my countenance be sad,

when the city,

the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste,

and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?

So, what did Nehemiah want done?

Nehemiah 2:4-5

King James Version

4 Then the king said unto me,

For what dost thou make request?

So I prayed to the God of heaven.

5 And I said unto the king,

If it please the king,

and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight

that thou wouldest send me unto Judah,

unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres,

that I may build it.

A cupbearer would build the walls of Jerusalem?

Only GOD -- through this grieving man -- could think up such a bold plan.

Complete, with God's specific instructions, that the project may be dealt with.

Nehemiah 2:7-8

King James Version

7 Moreover I said unto the king

If it please the king,

let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river,

that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;

8 And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest,

that he may give me timber to make beams

for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house,

and for the wall of the city,

and for the house that I shall enter into

And the king granted me,

according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Which the king supported.

Nehemiah 2:9

King James Version

9 Then I came to the governors beyond the river,

and gave them the king's letters

Now the king had sent captains of the army

and horsemen with me.

To the great distress of God's enemies.

Nehemiah 2:10

King James Version

10 When Sanballat the Horonite,

and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite,

heard of it

it grieved them exceedingly that there was come

a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

Following what God had imprinted upon his heart, Nehemiah went to Jerusalem -- quietly.

Nehemiah 2:11-12

King James Version

11 So I came to Jerusalem,

and was there three days.

12 And I arose in the night,

I and some few men with me;

neither told I any man what my God had put

in my heart to do at Jerusalem:

neither was there any beast with me

save the beast that I rode upon.

And surveyed the damage.

Nehemiah 2:13-15

King James Version

13 And I went out by night by the gate of the valley,

even before the dragon well,

and to the dung port,

and viewed the walls of Jerusalem

which were broken down,

and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.

14 Then I went on to the gate of the fountain,

and to the king's pool

but there was no place for the beast

that was under me to pass.

15 Then went I up in the night by the brook,

and viewed the wall,

and turned back,

and entered by the gate of the valley,

and so returned.

In utmost secrecy.

Nehemiah 2:16

King James Version

16 And the rulers knew not whither I went,

or what I did;

neither had I as yet told it to the Jews,

nor to the priests,

nor to the nobles,

nor to the rulers,

nor to the rest that did the work.

Finally speaking to the people.

Nehemiah 2:17-18

King James Version

17 Then said I unto them

Ye see the distress that we are in,

how Jerusalem lieth waste,

and the gates thereof are burned with fire:

come,

and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem,

that we be no more a reproach.

18 Then I told them of the hand of my God

which was good upon me;

as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me

And they said

Let us rise up and build.

So they strengthened their hands

for this good work.

Receiving the scorn of God's enemies.

Nehemiah 2:19

King James Version

19 But when Sanballat the Horonite,

and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite,

and Geshem the Arabian,

heard it

they laughed us to scorn,

and despised us,

and said,

What is this thing that ye do?

will ye rebel against the king?

To which Nehemiah had a God-inspired rebuttal.

Nehemiah 2:20

King James Version

20 Then answered I them,

and said unto them,

The God of heaven, he will prosper us;

therefore we his servants will arise and build

but ye have no portion,

nor right,

nor memorial,

in Jerusalem.

And the people of Jerusalem worked to build the wall.

Nehemiah 4:6

King James Version

6 So built we the wall

and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof

for the people had a mind to work.

Even as danger lurked.

Nehemiah 4:17

King James Version

17 They which builded on the wall,

and they that bare burdens,

with those that laded

every one with one of his hands wrought in the work,

and with the other hand held a weapon.

But Nehemiah was ready.

Nehemiah 4:18

King James Version

18 For the builders,

every one had his sword girded by his side,

and so builded

And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

And the people were, too.

Nehemiah 4:19-23

King James Version

19 And I said unto the nobles,

and to the rulers,

and to the rest of the people

The work is great and large,

and we are separated upon the wall,

one far from another.

20 In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet,

resort ye thither unto us:

our God shall fight for us.

21 So we laboured in the work:

and half of them held the spears

from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

22 Likewise at the same time said I unto the people,

Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem,

that in the night they may be a guard to us,

and labour on the day.

23 So neither I,

nor my brethren,

nor my servants,

nor the men of the guard which followed me

none of us put off our clothes,

saving that every one put them off for washing.

GOD could not be denied.

Through Nehemiah, and in the LORD's own PERFECT time, the walls were built -- in record time.

Nehemiah 6:15

King James Version

15 So the wall was finished

in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul

in fifty and two days.

This time, it was not the king's cupbearer who was sad.

Nehemiah 6:16

King James Version

16 And it came to pass,

that when all our enemies heard thereof

and all the heathen that were about us saw these things

they were much cast down in their own eyes:

for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.

It's not surprising the king's cupbearer became governor.

Nehemiah 5:14

King James Version

14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed

to be their governor in the land of Judah

from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year

of Artaxerxes the king,

that istwelve years,

I and my brethren have not eaten

the bread of the governor.

And this governor could not be corrupted.

Nehemiah 5:15

King James Version

15 But the former governors that had been before me

were chargeable unto the people

and had taken of them bread and wine,

beside forty shekels of silver;

yea,

even their servants bare rule over the people

but so did not I,

because of the fear of God.

Preferring to secure the walls of God's JERUSALEM.

Nehemiah 5:16

King James Version

16 Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall

neither bought we any land

and all my servants were gathered thither

unto the work.

And you can read more about this faithful man's mission, from the Book of Nehemiah.

And read about those who tried to hinder God's plan:

JESUS lambasts hypocrites

What angers the LORD?

Matthew 7:5

King James Version

5 Thou hypocrite,

first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;

and then shalt thou see clearly

to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

The thing about the LORD JESUS, is that He doesn't mince words.

Neither did His FATHER.

Jesus can't be any other way.

Luke 19:10

King James Version

10 For the Son of man is come

to seek and to save

that which was lost.

For He takes great responsibility for all GOD sent Him.

John 6:39

King James Version

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me,

that of all which he hath given me

I should lose nothing,

but should raise it up again at the last day.

That's why, if the LORD seems harsh, it is DEFINITELY for our own SALVATION.

Not just our own good, but for GOD's purpose.

We are to be made perfect, for GOD.

Listen to how JESUS lambasts hypocrites.

Which can apply to most of us, so take heed.

Don't take it personally, consider it GRACE from GOD.

Which always is, when corrected by God.

Matthew 23:13

King James Version

13 But woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men:

for ye neither go in yourselves,

neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Matthew 23:14

King James Version

14 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye devour widows' houses,

and for a pretence make long prayer:

therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Matthew 23:15

King James Version

15 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte,

and when he is made,

ye make him twofold more the child of hell

than yourselves.

Matthew 23:16-22

King James Version

16 Woe unto you,

ye blind guides,

which say,

Whosoever shall swear by the temple,

it is nothing;

but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple,

he is a debtor!

17 Ye fools and blind:

for whether is greater,

the gold,

or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

18 And,

Whosoever shall swear by the altar,

it is nothing;

but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it,

he is guilty.

19 Ye fools and blind:

for whether is greater,

the gift,

or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar,

sweareth by it,

and by all things thereon.

21 And whoso shall swear by the temple,

sweareth by it,

and by him that dwelleth therein.

22 And he that shall swear by heaven,

sweareth by the throne of God,

and by him that sitteth thereon.

Matthew 23:23-24

King James Version

23 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin,

and have omitted the weightier matters of the law,

judgment,

mercy,

and faith:

these ought ye to have done,

and not to leave the other undone.

24 Ye blind guides,

which strain at a gnat,

and swallow a camel.

Matthew 23:25-26

King James Version

25 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye make clean the outside of the cup

and of the platter,

but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26 Thou blind Pharisee,

cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter,

that the outside of them may be clean also.

Matthew 23:27-28

King James Version

27 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

for ye are like unto whited sepulchres,

which indeed appear beautiful outward,

but are within full of dead men's bones,

and of all uncleanness.

28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous

unto men,

but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Matthew 23:29-36

King James Version

29 Woe unto you,

scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites!

because ye build the tombs of the prophets,

and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30 And say,

If we had been in the days of our fathers,

we would not have been partakers with them

in the blood of the prophets.

31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves,

that ye are the children of them

which killed the prophets.

32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

33 Ye serpents,

ye generation of vipers,

how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

34 Wherefore,

behold,

I send unto you prophets,

and wise men,

and scribes:

and some of them ye shall kill and crucify;

and some of them shall ye scourge

in your synagogues,

and persecute them from city to city:

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood

shed upon the earth,

from the blood of righteous Abel

unto the blood of Zacharias

son of Barachias,

whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36 Verily I say unto you,

All these things shall come upon this generation.

Matthew 23:37-39

King James Version

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,

thou that killest the prophets,

and stonest them which are sent unto thee,

how often would I have gathered

thy children together,

even as a hen gathereth her chickens

under her wings,

and ye would not!

38 Behold,

your house is left unto you desolate.

39 For I say unto you,

Ye shall not see me henceforth

till ye shall say,

Blessed is he

that cometh

in the name of the Lord.
