Matthew 6:22-23
King James Version
22 The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single,
thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil,
thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness,
how great is that darkness!
Now I also know why JESUS said:
Matthew 5:28

28 But I say unto you,
That whosoever looketh on a woman
to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already
in his heart.
From which, the Lord added:
Matthew 5:29

29 And if thy right eye offend thee,
pluck it out,
and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee
that one of thy members should perish,
and not that thy whole body
should be cast into hell.
Not to mean you literally pluck out that sinning eye.
Jesus wants us to have singleness of vision -- to be full of His light, to follow His commandments, and to do the will of God.
And to prevent further corruption, and infiltration, by addressing that part of us which sins.
As we must, for Jesus is our GUIDE.
He is the "light of the world".
John 8:12

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them,
saying,
I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life.
JESUS was prophesied to be a "light to the Gentiles".
Isaiah 49:6
King James Version
6 And he said,
It is a light thing
that thou shouldest be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and to restore the preserved of Israel:
I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles,
that thou mayest be my salvation
unto the end of the earth.
In JESUS was "life".
John 1:4-5

4 In him was life;
and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not.
JESUS was the "true Light".
John 1:6-9
King James Version
6 There was a man sent from God,
whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness,
to bear witness of the Light,
that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light,
but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light,
which lighteth every man
that cometh into the world.
The LORD's "glorious gospel" must shine upon us.
2 Corinthians 4:4

4 In whom the god of this world
hath blinded the minds of them
which believe not,
lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ,
who is the image of God,
should shine unto them.
JESUS wanted us to be "children of light".
John 12:35-36
King James Version
35 Then Jesus said unto them,
Yet a little while is the light with you.
Walk while ye have the light,
lest darkness come upon you:
for he that walketh in darkness
knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light,
believe in the light,
that ye may be the children of light.
These things spake Jesus,
and departed,
and did hide himself from them.
No wonder, the enemy attacks our "eye" -- our singleness of purpose.
Corrupting every bone in our body.
Tempting us with things that are abominations to GOD.
Distracting us from the LIGHT of CHRIST.
Taking our vision away from GOD's GLORIOUS GOSPEL.
He doesn't want us to be children of light.
But Christ had a mission, which no one can thwart.
John 9:39

39 And Jesus said,
For judgment I am come into this world,
that they which see not
might see;
and that they which see
might be made blind.
And because people are proud, preferring to trust their own corrupted mind, and vision, and not honoring the incorruptible TRUTH and LIGHT of CHRIST, their sins remain, leaving them in darkness.
John 9:40-41
King James Version
40 And some of the Pharisees
which were with him heard these words,
and said unto him,
Are we blind also?
41 Jesus said unto them,
If ye were blind,
ye should have no sin:
but now ye say,
We see;
therefore your sin remaineth.
JESUS -- the "everlasting light" -- will end the days of our "mourning".
And morning shall come.
The brightness of the LORD's LIGHT overcomes all darkness.
Isaiah 60:19-20

19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day;
neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee:
but the Lord shall be unto thee
an everlasting light,
and thy God thy glory.
20 Thy sun shall no more go down;
neither shall thy moon withdraw itself:
for the Lord shall be
thine everlasting light,
and the days of thy mourning
shall be ended.
And one day, God's holy city -- the "new Jerusalem" -- will come down from heaven, and the LAMB will be the "light thereof".
Revelation 21:23-25

23 And the city had no need of the sun,
neither of the moon,
to shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten it,
and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved
shall walk in the light of it:
and the kings of the earth
do bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day:
for there shall be no night there.
