Luke 23:27-28
King James Version
27 And there followed him
a great company of people,
and of women,
which also bewailed and lamented him.
28 But Jesus turning unto them said,
Daughters of Jerusalem,
weep not for me,
but weep for yourselves,
and for your children.
What a contrast Jerusalem was, in the day of CHRIST's crucifixion.
Where the daughters of Jerusalem wept, Pilate washed his hands of Jesus.
Matthew 27:24
King James Version
24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing,
but that rather a tumult was made,
he took water,
and washed his hands before the multitude,
saying,
I am innocent of the blood of this just person:
see ye to it.
Which the people eagerly took on.
Matthew 27:25
King James Version
25 Then answered all the people,
and said,
His blood be on us,
and on our children.
Where before, they welcomed JESUS to the city.
Luke 19:37-38
King James Version
37 And when he was come nigh,
even now at the descent of the mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of the disciples
began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice
for all the mighty works that they had seen;
38 Saying,
Blessed be the King
that cometh in the name of the Lord:
peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest.
And marveled at His miracles, and ministry.
Matthew 15:31
King James Version
31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered,
when they saw the dumb to speak,
the maimed to be whole,
the lame to walk,
and the blind to see:
and they glorified the God of Israel.
The LORD knew what fate awaited Him in Jerusalem.
Matthew 20:17-19
King James Version
17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem
took the twelve disciples apart in the way,
and said unto them,
18 Behold,
we go up to Jerusalem;
and the Son of man shall be betrayed
unto the chief priests and unto the scribes,
and they shall condemn him to death,
19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock,
and to scourge,
and to crucify him:
and the third day he shall rise again.
The mob merely fulfilled Scripture.
And this, Jesus prophesied to the weeping women of Jerusalem.
Luke 23:29-31
King James Version
29 For,
behold,
the days are coming,
in the which they shall say,
Blessed are the barren,
and the wombs that never bare,
and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,
Fall on us;
and to the hills,
Cover us.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree,
what shall be done in the dry?
And one day, as prophesied, the people who crucified the Lord, will mourn, too.
Zechariah 12:9-11
King James Version
9 And it shall come to pass in that day,
that I will seek to destroy all the nations
that come against Jerusalem.
10 And I will pour upon the house of David,
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
the spirit of grace and of supplications:
and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for him,
as one mourneth for his only son,
and shall be in bitterness for him,
as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem,
as the mourning of Hadadrimmon*
in the valley of Megiddon.
Revelation 1:7
King James Version
7 Behold,
he cometh with clouds;
and every eye shall see him,
and they also which pierced him:
and all kindreds of the earth
shall wail because of him.
Even so,
Amen.
The LORD was destined to be crucified in Jerusalem.
Luke 13:31-33
King James Version
31 The same day
there came certain of the Pharisees,
saying unto him,
Get thee out, and depart hence:
for Herod will kill thee.
32 And he said unto them,
Go ye, and tell that fox,
Behold,
I cast out devils,
and I do cures to day and to morrow,
and the third day I shall be perfected.
33 Nevertheless I must walk to day,
and to morrow,
and the day following:
for it cannot be that a prophet
perish out of Jerusalem.
Reflecting the desolation of the house of Jerusalem.
Luke 13:34-35
King James Version
34 O Jerusalem,
Jerusalem,
which killest the prophets,
and stonest them that are sent unto thee;
how often would I have gathered thy children together,
as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings,
and ye would not!
35 Behold,
your house is left unto you desolate:
and verily I say unto you,
Ye shall not see me,
until the time come when ye shall say,
Blessed is he
that cometh in the name of the Lord.
But GOD had purposely chosen Jerusalem.
2 Chronicles 6:6
King James Version
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem,
that my name might be there;
and have chosen David
to be over my people Israel.
And His plan is in place.
Isaiah 62:1
King James Version
62 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace,
and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest,
until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness,
and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
Of course, we know WHO is the lamp, and salvation of Israel.
